Formed as Faulkville Church of God in the late 1960’s, this great church experienced many years of trials and triumphs. Organized with just a handful of people, these prayer warriors were determined to see people won to Jesus. With slow but steady growth over the years, the church name was eventually changed to Monterey Park Church of God due to the opening of a newly developed sub-division behind the church. Over the next 30 years, under the direction of pastors like Ray Dawson, Jesse Ogden and James Garlen, the church began to impact the small community of Faulkville. In September 2004, Pastor Eddie Tomberlin, his wife, LaDonna, and their two children moved to Effingham County and, with wide eyes and huge ambition, Pastor Tomberlin took over the reigns at Monterey Park Church of God. Determined to follow God’s direction, Pastor Tomberlin jumped head first into the vision God had established for his ministry. The ministry began to move forward with exciting, new ministries being established and new staff being developed. With the faces changing and the spiritual climate of the church in- creasing, it was only inevitable that many other things were soon to change. The once conservative, traditional church had now become a thriving relevant ministry in a community searching for answers. In April 2006, as a guest minister began to preach, something in Pastor Tomberlin ignited as the speaker began to prophesy about Pastor Tomberlin’s ministry becoming an international ministry. At the end of the service, Pastor Tomberlin stood before his congregation and said, “You know the only reason this church is called Monterey Park Church of God is because Monterey Park sub-division was built behind us” – he went on to say – “I feel like the spirit of the Lord is asking me if we want to be a sub-division ministry or an international ministry and the name International Worship Center was born. In September, 2006, the church began to hold two morning worship services in an attempt to accommodate the growth. With overcrowded seating and parking, inadequate children’s and youth ministry space, IWC began to develop a plan for a new Resource Center. The new facility that we are currently occupying is just the beginning of what God has called us to do. Phase I, of a four phase vision, is completed to the Glory of God! The ministry of IWC is not about building buildings, rather building people. It is the vision of IWC to be a ministry of open arms, reaching beyond religious, racial, social and economic barriers to embrace everyone with love, acceptance and forgiveness until we see the fulfillment of His kingdom. Don’t miss your opportunity to share in helping to build the Kingdom of God with International Worship Center. If you are looking for a home church, we hope you will consider us and begin to find your place in ministry here at IWC.
